Thanks in part to their great capacity for movement, birds are a group of species whose distribution areas and habits can change rapidly.

During its hundred years of existence, the Swiss Ornithological Institute, with the support of all the country's amateur and professional ornithologists, has been able to document numerous changes in bird populations. On the occasion of this centenary, we are going to review some of the changes that have taken place over the last century and relate these developments to the changes in the environment that have also taken place over this period.
