Maison de Courten

Built between 1769 and 1773, in a French style, the Maison de Courten is one of the most noteworthy 18th-century aristocratic houses in Valais.

Various events take place in the cellars, including plays, exhibitions and lectures.

However, the building’s main role since 1986 has been as headquarters of the Rainer Maria Rilke Foundation. It houses a permanent exhibition, consisting of original letters by Rilke, manuscripts, books, photographs and paintings.

The Foundation is linked with the Tour de Muzot at Veyras, which dates from the 13th century and is closely associated with Rilke’s presence in Valais.
