300 years of the Maison du remuage

The Maison du remuage is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year: a chance to discover this historic building, a legacy of the Anniviers people’s tradition of remuage, by joining our guided tours running throughout the day!

If there is one place that bears witness to the close link between the history of the Val d’Anniviers and that of Sierre, it is undoubtedly the Maison du remuage. Situated in the Tservetta district, it stands as a valuable testament to the tradition of ‘remuage’, when the people of Anniviers would descend to the plains with their livestock to spend the season there, settling in the neighbourhoods of Sierre.

To mark the 300th anniversary of this iconic building, which is part of the heritage of Sierre and the Val d’Anniviers, Sierre Tourisme invites you to a special day on 17 October 2026.

Usually accessible by booking only, the Maison du remuage will, exceptionally, open its doors to the public. Accompanied by our guides, set off to explore this place steeped in history, its architecture and the traditions that have shaped it. A day to bring to life, through a guided tour, the history of the ‘remuage’ and the bond that has united the Sierre plain with the Val d’Anniviers for centuries.

Programme :

10.00 am – 5.00 pm: Guided tours of the Maison du Remuage every 20 minutes (book on the day, 15 people per group)
11.00 am: Speech and drinks reception
12.00 pm: Musical entertainment by the Fifres et tambours de la Gougra
2.00 pm: Talk on transhumance in the Sierre and Val d’Anniviers region by Armand Savioz (author of Anniviers, le yin et yang occidental, Anthropologie de la vie alpine d’autrefois, published by Georg)
2.00 pm: Musical entertainment by the Gougra Pipes and Drums
3.00 pm: Musical entertainment by the Toba d’Anivyé (Alpine horns)
4.30 pm: Musical entertainment by the Toba d’Anivyé (Alpine horns)
6.00 pm: End of the event
