Built nearly 500 years ago, the bisse des Sarrasins served to irrigate the meadows.
It is said that the Saracens built the bisse that bears their name. The Arabs had evident expertise for this type of work. But the hypothesis of any link has never been confirmed. Its construction date is estimated between 1415 and 1513. The channel then took its source at Moulinet (downstream of Pinsec). About 10 km long, it served to:
irrigate the pastures
water the livestock
power sawmills and mills
Restored in the early 2000s, the path of the bisse des Sarrasins is now accessible to hikers. It links Pinsec to Vercorin and can also be reached from the village of Fang. The bisse is dotted with sights, including:
The remains of the Bisse in the rocks of Creux de Varnec
The view of Fang
The old mayen of Voualans
The Vallon de Crouja
