This route touches five large wine-producing municipalities in the region: St-Léonard, Lens, Crans-Montana, Noble-Contrée, and Sierre. Almost the entire hike crosses vineyards, with very little elevation change, breathtaking landscapes over the Rhône plain, and generous sunshine throughout the route.
After crossing St-Léonard from the CFF station, you begin a small ascent to reach the vineyard above the famous Underground Lake. Then, it's a long and beautiful crossing down to the lower part of Flanthey, then the straight line continues along the hillside via Ollon to Corin. These three villages are witnesses to the transhumance that once took place between the mid-slope villages of Lens, Chermignon, and Montana, and their wine-producing villages.
After crossing the cantonal road at Corin, the path continues towards the picturesque village of Loc, linked to the inhabitants of Randogne, before descending to Sierre passing in front of Château de Villa.
OUR ADVICE
Multiple wine tasting opportunities are available throughout the route, especially at Château de Vaas and Château de Villa.
| Turn-by-turn directions | From the St-Léonard CFF station, cross the village then turn right passing in front of the church towards the vineyard (route de Lens). After crossing above the underground lake, take the path to the right through the vineyards. Follow this path, between vineyards and cliffs, to the Flanthey road. There, follow the road that descends for a few meters, and as soon as you reach the hairpin bend, take up the pedestrian path again. After passing near a small waterfall, continue through the vineyards up to the heights of the village of Ollon. Cross the road to continue straight ahead to Corin (take the upper path, otherwise you arrive too low at Champzabé). Then cross the cantonal road at Corin and continue towards Loc. There too, cross the village passing in front of the castle, then cross the small stream to the highest point of the hike, before gradually descending towards the town of Sierre and the Villa district. Stop in front of the Château de Villa before reaching the Tourist Office in the town center. |
