The Tour of the lakes of La Corne and La Brèche takes you around the village of Granges, in a natural area dedicated to leisure and relaxation. First, you must cross the orchards and then the golf course to reach Lac de la Brèche, the largest of the lakes in the area. The walk continues towards Lac de la Corne, in which you can swim during warm summer days.
At the end of the path is the Pouta Fontana nature reserve. Covering 32 hectares, it is the largest wetland in Valais. It consists of numerous bodies of water bordered by reed beds, canals, marshes, and riparian forests. About 190 bird species have been observed in the reserve, which remains today the main breeding site for the beaver in Valais.
After reaching the Rhône's edge, you take the northern shore of Lac de la Brèche before returning towards the village past the Pintset hill.
OUR ADVICE
A visit to the Pouta Fontana viewing point or the climb up the Pintset hill can enhance this walk.
| Turn-by-turn directions | From the center of the village of Granges, head north then just after crossing the canal, turn left and go straight ahead. The path crosses the golf course, then runs along the Lac de la Brèche (on the right) and then the Lac de la Corne (on the left). At the end of the straight section, take the path to the right then climb onto the Rhône embankment, and take the road to the right along the river before gently turning right again on the shores of Lac de la Brèche. At the end of the lake, continue straight along the small stream then, upon reaching the road, turn right, then immediately left after the parking spaces. Finally, cross the orchards, follow the Pintset hill and return to the village center. |
