Jean Margelisch, a freelance photographer, has been travelling across Africa since the 1970s. He is particularly interested in deserts, which he explores as spaces of silence, spirituality and memory.
Through his many trips to the Horn of Africa — and more specifically Ethiopia — he follows in the footsteps of mythical figures such as Rimbaud and Monfreid, all the way to the heart of the Danakil Desert. In the Omo Valley, he lived alongside communities that practise fascinating rituals steeped in mystery.
