The Fondation Opale in Lens is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a bold participatory exhibition entitled HIGH FIVE!
The Foundation challenged 26 leading figures from the world of Swiss culture - including artists, writers and collectors, as well as a neuroscientist and a watchmaker - to choose a work of contemporary Aboriginal art from the Opale Foundation's collections, proposing a "mirror work" that they owned, that they had created or that the Foundation could borrow... as the opening shot of this singular project.
HIGH FIVE! will feature more than 60 Aboriginal and international works, ranging in scale from a few centimetres to large-scale site-specific installations, in an original scenography designed by the Pavillon Trois studio, and will explore the many ways in which the Swiss guests perceive Aboriginal art. To complete this dialogue, the Foundation asked Daniel Browning, a journalist and artist from the Bundjalung and Kullilli Aboriginal communities, to interview the participants. The accounts of these colourful interviews have been published in a book of the same name to accompany the exhibition.
