Performed by Marc Brew, this solo marks the first collaboration of this Australian artist, who, after a serious accident, moves in a wheelchair, with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Drawing from their experiences and key moments that led to change, the two choreographers explore, through movement, video, and text, what life can be like when everything is suddenly turned upside down. A car accident abruptly changed Marc Brew's life, transforming a classical dancer into a paraplegic in a split second. However, the piece doesn't focus solely on that moment; it also delves into how individuals react to such twists of fate.
"An Accident" deals with vulnerability, resilience, and the body as a map that traces lived experiences. In this performance, these two internationally renowned artists invent new forms of movement and question our socially normed image of people with disabilities. Brew's paralyzed body becomes a reflective surface for deeply human questions: What do we do when our initial path deviates? What is the strength of our determination? Will it lead us to find different, unprecedented paths? What do we need to form a closer and more united society? The audience is immersed in the heart of Brew's initiatory journey. The stage is occupied by a car and a cameraman filming live, making spectators witnesses to a story where, if everything can shift in an instant, a twist of fate doesn't necessarily define who we are.
"An Accident" vividly illustrates what life teaches us and how, by sharing our experiences, we can learn from others and also heal.
