Artsonic, in collaboration with ASLEC, invites Quebec's ‘Winston Band’ for an evening of zydeco-cajun at the Place du Séquoia in Sierre!
The Winston Band is a unique Montreal band that blends its French-Canadian roots with zydeco and Cajun music. Since 2012, the Winston Band has been travelling the world, spreading their joie de vivre with a sound that fuses the rich musical tradition of Louisiana with their own Montreal identity. After several pilgrimages to Louisiana, the group's 2019 album Zig Zag Zydeco Zoo garnered nominations at the ADISQ Gala and the GAMIQ in the Best World Music Album category, and the EP Enwèye à Lafayette won the GAMIQ 2022 for Best World Music Album. After the pandemic, the five musicians teamed up with producer Erik West-Millette to release Winston Express in 2023.
Inspired by various forms of music from French-speaking America, the group unabashedly merges cultures and eras to create a sound that is doubly ‘original’, looking both to its chosen roots and to a national scene where it stands out. His repertoire oscillates between his own compositions and traditional pieces from Louisiana, Quebec and elsewhere. The powerful sound of the accordion, backed by a typical contemporary zydeco band, electrifies the audience and ensures a warm, festive, danceable atmosphere.
The Winston Band has taken its music to the four corners of Canada, as well as France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United States. To date, the band has played over 600 shows.
