Bacchus Fountain

Salgesch

The Bacchus Fountain is one of several fountains that have been deliberately placed in the village in modern times.

People looked to Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, for happiness, cheerfulness and conviviality.

It was a matter close to the heart of Edwin Plaschy, co-founder of the Johanniterbund, to present the organisation with a fountain following his resignation as president. Unfortunately, he was unable to hand it over in person. At the patron saint’s festival on 29 August 2000, his wife Jeannette unveiled the Bacchus Fountain, which had been blessed by Cardinal Schwery, in the car park by the church.
