Gottfried Zumoffen's birthplace

This building, which now houses the Salgesch Wine Museum, was originally the birthplace of Gottfried Zumoffen, son of Joseph and Anna Maria (née Cina), born on 2 October 1845 and died on 1 September 1928.

A schoolteacher in Salgesch, a Jesuit priest and a lecturer in natural history, physics and chemistry at the universities of Bern, Beirut and Cairo, Gottfried Zumoffen was one of the first archaeologists in Lebanon. He was notably the author of numerous scientific works.

Thanks to an augmented reality reconstruction, visitors can now interactively discover this illustrious figure from Salgesch heritage and embark on a journey through time. The visualisation was created by Sarah Montani, a digital artist from Salgesch.

The artist Sarah Montani, born in 1972, is a painter and sculptor who has long exhibited her work around the world. It was whilst growing up in the Swiss mountains, surrounded by magnificent views, that she decided to become an artist. A pioneer in digital art, she is committed to combining traditional painting techniques with augmented reality.
