The hike first crosses the natural site of Géronde as well as the industrial village of Chippis before tackling a beautiful climb of 600 m altitude difference to Plan Palet, on the path of the legendary Sierre-Zinal race. But before reaching it, the altitude gain continues on what was formerly the Remuage road, used by generations of families from Val d'Anniviers to work the vineyards in the plain. After the famous contours of Niouc, the climb ends beautifully at the ruins of Beauregard Castle, a sublime viewpoint over the Sierre region and the Rhône plain.
Then, the climb resumes to Plan Palet before a beautiful section through the Finges forest and a descent via the Saint-Antoine Chapel, the first challenge of the five 4000-meter peaks race. Once at the bottom, the same route taken on the way out via Chippis and Géronde is followed back to downtown Sierre.
OUR ADVICE
The climb to Beauregard is tough, but once at the top, the pain quickly fades in front of the magical panorama offered by this place.
| Turn-by-turn directions | From the Tourist Office, pass under the railway tracks to reach the Bellevue Plain and then the Planzette hill via the Pines roundabout. From the Planzette viewpoint, you can already see the day's goal, the ruins of Beauregard Castle. After the descent to Géronde, continue towards Chippis passing in front of the Technopole then over the Rhône bridge. Once in the old village, cross the Navisence then start the climb to Niouc, passing through its famous contours. Above the contours, the path continues between some houses before turning left towards Beauregard. Once on the promontory, retrace your steps then continue climbing up to Plan Palet. After reaching the highest point of the hike, it is time to descend past the Saint-Antoine Chapel. Just before reaching the Val d'Anniviers road, turn left towards Chippis along the Rhône, then rejoin the village. The end of the route follows the same track as the outward journey. |
