Wine Trail

This 6 km marked path takes you, between vines and groves, to discover the wine villages and viticultural techniques. 80 explanatory panels line the route.
One of the most beautiful walks through the vineyards in the whole region!
Take the Wine Trail to live and understand the world of vines. This six-kilometer path connects the two exhibition spaces of the Wine Museum. It takes you between vines and groves to discover the wine villages and viticultural techniques. 80 explanatory panels line the route. They tell the life of the vine, but also of the landscapes and people.
The starting point is at the Château de Villa in Sierre, a 16th-century building hosting the museum’s temporary exhibitions. The château also houses a restaurant and a wine library where wine lovers can taste more than 650 crus of the region. The journey ends with a permanent exhibition in a historic building in Salgesch. The discovery of the wine world is approached in an original, educational, and entertaining way.

OUR ADVICE
A visit to the countless cellars in the region will also allow you to taste the good products of the local terroir.

Turn-by-turn directions

Before starting your hike, consider visiting the Sierre site of the Wine Museum, located at the very beginning of the wine trail, next to the Château de Villa. Then take the road towards St-Ginier and climb into the vineyard overlooking the Villa district. The path then passes under the funicular and joins the typical Muraz district. Leaving Muraz, you reach the village of Veyras, which has always attracted writers and artists. At the exit of the village, after crossing the cantonal road, you pass near the Château de Muzot, which was the Valais residence of the poet Rainer Maria Rilke. Then you reach the lower part of the wine village of Miège and the Wine Trail square, ideal for a picnic (toilets are also available in summer). On this square, a plot highlights the exceptional diversity of the Valais vineyard with a collection of 34 grape varieties to taste and touch. After crossing the Bernunes vineyard, you arrive at the intersection with the small Bisse des Marais. From there, you can either descend into the Raspille gorge to climb up on the other side and arrive in the village of Salgesch, or take the Bisse and cross the Raspille further upstream and emerge on a promontory overlooking the village of Salgesch. The trail ends at Salgesch, where you should not forget to visit the 2nd site of the Wine Museum and, why not, stop at a winemaker's cellar to enjoy a well-deserved aperitif!
